In 23 Premier League matches, Robin van Persie has scored 10 goals. This isn’t a very impressive record for any striker and it’s much worse for a forward who was once considered to be one of the best in the world a few seasons ago.
Robin van Persie has 17 months left in his contract with Manchester United and no discussions have been made concerning a possible extension.
Fortunately for the Dutch attacker, it’s not just him who is underperforming for Manchester United as it’s almost the entire team which have failed to actually make a commanding series of impressive performances in this season. Neither Falcao nor Rooney are currently going through the best shape of their lives and these are the players which are suppose and expected to be the main attacking powerhouse of Manchester United but have failed to deliver.
Unless Falcao begins to play at the same level he did some years ago when he used to perform with Athletic Madrid, it seems highly unlikely that Louis van Gaal would want to keep the Colombian player on his team for an extended period of time but if things continue the way they are, then a few more players could also be dispatched during the summer transfer window as Louis van Gaal needs to have performers who can actually play at the level that the team needs.
Things just don’t seem to be working out for Robin van Persie at Old Trafford as he scored what was considered to be one of the best goals during the 2014 World Cup and enjoyed having a fairly good campaign with his country in Brazil but he has not managed to continue riding that momentum.
The upcoming few months will play a huge part in the future of Robin van Persie and if he continues performing for Manchester United after his contract reaches it’s end in 17 months.
